Clare DeForest was the editor for the
prosecution of Jim Suerd. He put together a tape, using footage that the
victims actually shot, the night of their murders. Though this tape was
supposedly not meant to be more than a "character witness" against Jim
Suerd, many people believe this to have been the sealing of Jim's fate as
guilty.
In the course of the interview with Mr. DeForest, questions about truth, and the use of video tape in a court room setting are discussed. Though Mr. DeForest believes Jim Suerd to be guilty, he does agree that the use of tape as a virtual testimony, may be something open to debate. The idea of editing time, and what constituted fact was also discussed. Toward the end of the interview, there were moments when Clare became uncomfortable, even upset by the idea of video tape as a tool to show guilt; especially in a case where no crime was comitted on camera. He is especially uncomfortable with the nickname given to him by the press, "The Killer Cutter". He maintains that Jim's guilt was nearly a foregone conclusion by the time he was brought into the case. |
